The last Monday October the 1st we had the 3rd version of one of the events that have strengthened the process of becoming a bilingual school: The Spelling Bee Junior.
For our school, the competition at the preschool level started in 2016, and it has become one of the most exciting events for all our transitions students and teachers alike.
We were glad and pleased to have participants from Luis López de Mesa School and Chester Palmer School, who also shared the excited moments we had during the activity.
This event was part of the whole program we had during the Rosarista Week, and in which we promoted one of the strategies to strengthen English processes as a second language.
Learning to spell helps to cement the connection between the letters and their sounds, and learning high-frequency “sight words” to mastery level, improves both reading and writing, being these skills very important in the process of acquisition of a second language.
Having in mind this, we challenged our smallest kids to show that no matter the age, what counts is the processes we developed with them during the daily class activities.
After 12 different rounds full of excitement and feelings mixed, we had our three finalist who were
1st place Simón Martinez Zuluaga from Chester Palmer School
2nd place Juan Diego Simanca from Rosario school
3rd place Mariana Hernández from Rosario School
We thanks to all the ones who supported and helped us to make this activity a success.
